Lived Experiences of Women Service Members Transitioning into Civilian Life

Women are now the fastest growing group within the veteran community. Yet there is currently sparse research on the experiences of women service member transitioning into civilian life. This interactive session will present findings of qualitative research, focusing on the lived experiences of female veterans’ journey from military service to civilian life with. By attending this session, participants will gain insight into the manner in which female veterans experience the process of transition into civilian work and life. As well as information specific to Counselor Educators and supervisors on how to help supervisees/students work effectively with female veterans in their transition to civilian work and life. This interactive session will include an overview of on relevant, current literature as well as key points of preliminary qualitative research results on emerging commonalities of female veterans describing their experiences of the process of returning to civilian life after military While the research presented explores the transition of service member to civilian within the context of career transition, identified challenges and support related to overall transition, and the intersectionality of gender and culture will be central to findings.
