This presentation presents and justifies a pedagogical framework for preparing counselors to address issues of moral injury and moral reckoning in clinical work with military combat veterans. The presenters, one a combat veteran, contend that the common treatment of veterans’ guilt as a symptom fails to address uniquely personal moral issues faced by those who acknowledge, or attempt to acknowledge, that their actions have caused harm to others and violated their moral commitments.
